  7.  COMPAQ DESKPRO 286 & 164, 201 MSGS.

  9.      Compaq systems need to have all motherboard sockets filled before
  10.      trying to add additional memory to the system.
  11.  
  12.  COMPAQ EXPANSION UNITS & ABOVE BOARDS
  13.  
  14.      There have been customer reports that Above Boards may not be reliable
  15.      in COMPAQ expansion units.
  16.  
  17.  COMPAQ PORTABLE ROM CONFLICT
  18.  
  19.      We have a field report that Rev E of the Compaq Portable (8088 based)
  20.      ROM will not support our EMM 4.0.  The customer stated that he
  21.      installed a Rev. J of the ROM and the problem went away.

  23.  COMPAQ SYSTEM PROBLEMS
  24.  
  25.      If, after adding an Intel product, (such as an Inboard, Above Board, or
  26.      Math Coprocessor), the COMPAQ Deskpro 286 system suddenly begins to
  27.      reboot itself automatically, here's some help.  This is usually a
  28.      symptom of one or two things.
  29.  
  30.      First the power supply could be failing and the Intel product could be
  31.      taxing it beyond its capabilities.  The only solution is to replace the
  32.      power supply.
  33.  
  34.      Second, and something to check BEFORE replacing the power supply, is a
  35.      defective connection between the power supply and the motherboard.
  36.      This will allow the system to operate until (a) an additional burden is
  37.      placed on the power supply, or (b) enough oxide builds up on the
  38.      connection, causing the system to exhibit the failure.  The cure for
  39.      this is to vigorously "reseat" the connection a couple times.  Be
  40.      careful to not apply excessive force and break the connector or
  41.      motherboard.

  43.  SERIAL PORT MISSING IN COMPAQS
  44.  
  45.      Problem: Compaq Deskpro 286 can't recognize a serial port on an Above
  46.      Board's Serial Port.
  47.  
  48.      The problem is Compaq's Diagnostic disk.  If you run diagnostics on the
  49.      system with an Above Board PS/286 or Plus I/O installed, the Com2 port
  50.      goes away until you cold boot.  Proper installation is as follows:

  52.      1.  Install Above Board, run Setboard, make the comm port COM2 (use
  53.          default interrupt 3).
  54.  
  55.      2.  Install serial software
  56.  
  57.      3.  Do NOT run COMPAQ diagnostics.
  58.  
  59.      Diagnostic versions 5.07, 5.08 and 6.01 all produce the same problem.
  60.      If diagnostics are run, a cold boot will get things back to normal
  61.      again.
